I’m always busy with thinking about what’s next. There are so much things I want to do but so little time.

Below are some hobby projects of mine.

Google Nest Hub apps

We have 2 Google Nest Hubs at home. One in the kitchen and one in my home office.

I like these devices because they’re very accessible, even for kids, and have nice features.

But I always wanted to create custom apps for it.

I found a way!

Plane Spotter

April, 2024

This is my first app I created for the Google Nest Hub. It shows the closest plane near my house.

Minecraft RCON

September, 2024

I created a Minecraft RCON app that can send commands to our privately hosted Minecraft servers. Like this my kids can manage some basic tasks like teleporting, changing game mode or setting the time.

Playdate

I bought a playdate in 2021. It’s a tiny handheld console and you can create your own games/apps!

Clubintosh

August, 2024

For Computer Club (a podcast about tech), I created a fictional operating system for the playdate with some nice scenes for you to crank-through. Including:

• Floppy disks
• BIOS
• Fully working desktop

Climate Core

Recently I changed our manual radiator valves with smart valves. I need to write a script to control them and link them in Home Assistant.

Plane Spotter v2

While my Plane Spotter app is working fine, I want to extend it with more features.

• A better indication where the plane is situated compared to my house (but also with clear guidance if I’m using the app in my home office or in the kitchen).
• A button to show the ADSB map overlay.
• A military mode to see how active the Belgian Air Force fleet is.

Personal Assistant

Some self-hosted scripts that can monitor “things” to alert me when “needed”. Very vague I know. :)
