Linux in 2025

I still remember when I first got a CD with Ubuntu 4.10. It was the first time that I tried out Linux.

First via the USB live mode but quickly decided I wanted to have this as a daily operating system. We’re talking about the year 2004.

I was 16 years old and into PC hardware. Back then I could build my own computer and was able to add a second hard drive which started my continuous adventures into the Linux dungeons.

In the early years hardware support in Linux was tough. There were a lot of compatibility issues or missing drivers. It wasn’t a walk in the park…

But since some years that really improved and there are some very nice Linux distros.

For my kids I installed them Zorin OS, a simple to use Linux OS. This even worked on hardware from 2011. If you want to revive some old computer, this is the way to go!

Nowadays I’m using Arch Linux + Hyprland. It gives peace and structure.

OK, I still use Windows for gaming but I’m really enjoying the Linux side of life. If you didn’t try yet, just do it!
